CORK SHIELD FAQ
What is ViPeq Cork Shield and where is it used?
ViPeq Cork Shield is a spray-applied cork coating for building exteriors and select interiors. It creates a seamless, textured finish that improves traction on high-touch areas, protects façades, and refreshes the look of stucco, brick, concrete, fiber-cement, and more.
Does it improve thermal comfort and energy performance?
Yes. The cork layer helps reduce thermal bridging on the building envelope, moderating heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter. Customers typically notice more stable indoor temperatures and fewer hot/cold spots near exterior walls.
Which substrates are compatible, and what surface prep is required?
It adheres to most mineral and rigid surfaces including stucco, brick, concrete, block, and many sidings (wood/composite/metal). Substrates must be clean, sound, and dry; cracks and defects are repaired, glossy paints are dulled, and edges are masked. Note: vinyl siding isn’t recommended as a substrate.
How durable is it, and what maintenance is needed?
The flexible cork-resin matrix resists cracking, UV exposure, and freeze–thaw cycling. Routine rinsing and occasional washing with mild soap keep it looking fresh; localized touch-ups can be blended without recoating entire elevations.
What about safety (fire/smoke), breathability, and sound?
The coating will not propagate flames and carries a Class-A style fire performance in standardized testing; it forms a water-resistant yet breathable layer that helps manage moisture. Its cork composition can also dampen exterior noise and reduce echoes on hard facades.
